Possui uma catedral do século XI e foi governada pelos árabes do século VI até o século XI. Foi definitivamente reconquistada em 1057 por Fernando Magno de Leão aos Mouros. Nesta cidade foram realizadas as primeiras "Cortes de Portugal" para coroar Afonso Henriques como primeiro Rei de Portugal, onde foram, também, estabelecidas as "Regras de Sucessão ao Trono".

This is an ancient city rich in history. Its founding dates back to the Roman ages. Lamego was an important city even in Visigothic times. It features an 11th-century cathedral and was ruled by the Arabs from the 6th century until the 11th century. It was definitively reconquered in 1057 by Fernando Magno de Leão to the Moors. In this city were held the first Courts of Portugal to crown Alfonso Henriques first King of Portugal, and the "Rules of Succession to the Throne" were established.
