Limerick is the third most populous urban area in the state, and the fourth most populous city on the island of Ireland. The city lies on the River Shannon. Limerick was founded by the Vikings in 812, and is one of Ireland’s oldest cities.
What to do in Limerick:
A great suggestion is drinking an Irish Coffee, brew infused with Irish whiskey, as it was invented in Limerick village Foynes in 1943.
Go to the Theatre, Limerick is known as the Treaty City after the Treaty of Limerick was signed here in October 1691!
Visit St. Mary’s Cathedral: Founded in 1168 St. Mary’s Cathedral is part of the fabric of Limerick life. In 1651 after Cromwell’s forces captured the City, St. Mary's Cathedral was used as a stable for the army’s horses!
And not less important King John’s Castle, the westernmost Norman castle in Europe. King John’s Castle is a 13th Century stronghold on King.
