“It’s in our DNA to help people” – this is what our MD Simon Poole said about why he mobilised a team of Splash staff to help a British expat whose Algarve hotel was ruined by wildfires in July 2022.
A record-breaking heatwave across western Europe caused wildfires to rip across swathes of Spain and Portugal causing widespread carnage.
We sent a team of six out to the town of Almancil, 14km west of Faro in the Algarve, after a desperate plea from Sally Roberts from Bristol, who was forced to close her 11-bedroom boutique hotel, Quinta Jacintina, after flames reached the building.
The devastation caused was "horrendous" and our team spent five days clearing and cleaning the wreckage and rebuilding so the hotel could re-open, saving Sally's livelihood and that of her eight staff.
